Kelly Hammargren is a full time activist and part time artist living in Berkeley, California. Kelly began with exploring mediums until finding her place in art with political and social justice issues as the drivers to creation.
As an issue driven artist her works tell a story. It might be a broad sweep, a specific event or a point in time. A sense of urgency may push forward or the impact may be tempered with humor. The methods of expression vary from subtle to direct with little interpretation left to chance. Most often found objects make their way into the piece. Kelly's formal education is a BA in Nursing from Gustavus Adolphus College and MBA in Health Care Management from Golden Gate University. Her art education comes from community college classes in fine art printmaking and graphic design, studio study and looking at a lot of art. Each year she packs in museum visits adding to her long list of favorites and surprise discoveries. She is especially fond of smaller museums featuring regional artists and focused collections. |
