Hank Clayton 1940-2010

Hank Clayton was a self educated man in the full sense.  He was incredibly curious about all aspects of life, history, cultures, politics and believed that he could never have too many books, especially art books.

Hank had an incredible eye and an endless list of favorite artists.  He bought, sold and collected art long before he decided to paint.  When he picked up a brush for the first time, it was the richness of his exposure to art beginning as a young child in Europe and through friendships with contemporary artists in New York that put him on the fast track.  And, it was a life full of challenges that pulled emotion into his artwork.

Once Hank began, he drew constantly from life and dreams.  He worked in multiple mediums including oils, pastels, graphite, charcoal and fine art printing including stone lithographs, etchings, aquatints and linocuts.

With just eleven years as an artist, he was enormously productive.  Much of Hank's artwork is yet to be photographed and catalogued.
